This interview offers a journey packed with sincere answers rooted in a woman's color palette, pre-show rituals, and the behind-the-scenes creative process. A sharp but inviting techno beat that brings together black's power, red's passion, and purple's free-spiritedness; the daily balance of mother, DJ/producer, and fitness trainer identities; sharing the lesson that mistakes are part of the road; practical solutions for healthy eating and intermissions between sets; the intergenerational bond established with her daughter; stage energy's originality and the emergence of the Dark Mom identity, with future surprises."
AWL : If we were to liken your life to a color palette as a woman, which colors define you the most, and what rhythm emerges when you bring these colors together?
DARK MOM : Black, because I draw strength from darkness. Red, because my passion and energy are there. Purple, because it represents the freedom of my spirit. When I bring these colors together, the resulting rhythm is a harsh yet inviting techno beat.
AWL : As someone with different identities—mother, DJ/producer, fitness trainer—how do these come together in your daily life, and what is the simplest, most actionable formula for this balance?
DARK MOM : I’ve always had different identities. But rather than putting them into separate boxes, I live them as parts of a whole. Physical discipline brings structure, motherhood softens my heart, and production explosions my imagination. The formula is simple: don’t live each role all at once, live them at the right moment.
AWL : Do you remember the beginning of your music career? What is the most valuable lesson those first steps taught you, and how do you remember that period?
DARK MOM : Yes! It was a time of great excitement but also many mistakes. The lesson it taught me is this: making mistakes is part of the journey itself. So I never stopped trying.
AWL : How do you maintain healthy eating amid busy schedules? Could you share a practical, tasty, energy-boosting routine for on the road, on stage, and between sets?
DARK MOM : I always have a healthy snack or fruit in my bag. And of course, I drink a lot of water.
AWL : How important is moving with your daughter? What are your three favorite activities that can be done at home or outside?
DARK MOM : Imagination is a very good teacher; working with her is priceless for me. Recording music together or watching educational content, in fact, helps connect generations. When our energies combine, we have a lot of fun and create wonderful things.
AWL : What was the biggest challenge you faced while balancing work life with the music industry, and how did you overcome it?
DARK MOM : The biggest challenge was people saying, “either this or that.” But I always said, “both this and that.” Work, sports, motherhood, music… they are all mine. I learned to balance them without giving up.
AWL : What simple rituals do you use to gather your mind and energy before a performance or during busy workdays? What small habits make a big difference?
DARK MOM: Before a show, I always do breathing exercises. My excitement is very similar to my daughter’s energy at age 2. The best way to cope with that feeling is to control the breath. After a few deep breaths, my heart and rhythm align. At that moment I feel fully ready to go on stage.
AWL : Could you tell us a bit about your creative process in music? What steps do you follow when writing music, and at which stage do you feel the most inspiration?
Inspiration comes in unexpected places. Sometimes I wake up from sleep, sometimes I’m in a loud, crowded place. No matter what, I immediately jot down a note or record a sound. You never know where inspiration will strike, so I stay alert all the time.
AWL : How do you think social media has affected your music career? What opportunities do digital platforms offer artists?
DARK MOM : Social media is another stage for me. It carries both freedom and risk. But when used correctly, it makes a huge audience reachable. Being able to connect directly with my followers there is an amazing opportunity.
AWL : Are there specific emotions or topics you find difficult to express in your music? What approaches do you use to cope with these challenges?
DARK MOM : Yes. Emotions like longing and hurt are hard to put into words. But when you drop a beat, those emotions flow on their own. Sometimes a bassline expresses what I’ve kept inside for years. For me, music is partly therapy and partly a diary.
AWL : Which moments on stage do you feel most relaxed? What kind of energy do live performances give you?
DARK MOM : The moment when I breathe the same air as the crowd. At that moment, motherhood, work, responsibilities, daily life… all fade into the background. On stage it’s only ‘me’ and the music. That’s when Dark Mom truly emerges.
AWL : Could you share a few hints about your upcoming projects? Will there be new music or events soon?
DARK MOM : Yes, new projects are coming. I’m currently working on several different productions. Some are harder-edged, some more melodic. I also have a few events planned, in Istanbul and Europe. I can’t reveal too many details to avoid spoiling the surprises, but there will be very exciting releases coming soon. Stay tuned.
